Children, Youth, and Family Director:
Purpose:
To facilitate faith formation among children and youth 0-18, worship, service, study, and fellowship, growing commitment and participation.
Strategy:
The children and youth director will do this work by equipping young adult adults, parents, and other members, including the young people themselves.
Accountability:
The Children, Youth and Family Director reports to the pastor. There will be a 90-day review at the outset, then annually thereafter.
Time:
25 hours/week. Roughly: 3 hours on Sunday morning. 3 hours for staff meeting and office time on Tuesday mornings. 5 hours Wednesday programming and prep. Remaining time for events, trips, one-on-ones, and ball games/concerts.
Qualifications:
- Faith in Christ and a desire to share it.
- Active faith life in word and deed.
- Familiarity with the Lutheran tradition.
- Several years demonstrated leadership experience in children and/or youth ministry.
- Preferred bachelor’s degree.
- Self-starter who takes initiative.
- Social media and tech proficiency would be a huge asset.
Responsibilities:
- Weekly meeting with the pastor and staff.
- Weekly worship and weekly youth events.
- Monthly written report to council. Attendance and council meeting is not required.
- Help the pastor with children’s messages, confirmation, and acolytes. Develop relationships with the confirmands. See confirmation as a feeder to senior high ministry.
- Create and support a team to develop and expand ministry with children and their families. Meet monthly.
- Create and support a team to develop an expand ministry with youth and their families. Meet monthly.
- Support Sunday school leader and attend Sunday school.
- Support LYO leader and attend LYO.
- Attend games as available, to support kids in band and sports.
- Develop a safe haven policy.
- Help with communications: Promote events and rally support for children and youth ministry through announcements in worship, social media, and newsletter articles.
- Assist pastor and office staff with communications.
Position Posting:
St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of La Grange, Texas is seeking a driven self-starter to serve as the Children and Youth Director. The position is part-time, 20-25 hours a week. The ideal candidate is an individual with a a vibrant faith and servant’s heart who is experienced in youth and family ministry and is dedicated to nurturing all members of the body of Christ.
Qualified candidates should have a grounded Christian Faith and be well versed in Lutheran tradition. A bachelor’s degree in related fields of study is preferred. Demonstrated leadership in children and/or youth and family ministry is important. Although not a requirement, social media, communication, and tech abilities would enhance this position. The chosen candidate will actively participate in worship, Bible study, prayer and congregational life of St. Paul Lutheran Church in La Grange.
